Some moments stay with you. Keep a clear account of what happened, what it meant to you, and what you might learn by returning to it.

The experience

Start with what you noticed. Include details you could describe to someone who wasn’t there.

An approximate date is fine. Mention uncertainty in your account.

What did you see, hear, do, or write down? Leave explanations for the next section.

Possible meaning

A moment can be meaningful even while its cause is uncertain.

A feeling, an association, an explanation you’re considering. You don’t have to settle on one.

Consider other explanations Optional

Consider context, what drew your attention, chance, or details you may be missing. “I don’t know” is a useful answer.

Make a checkable prediction Optional

Use this only if you want to test an expectation. Write it before checking the outcome. A reflection on its own is enough.

Name something you can check. Include what would count as a match and what would count as a miss.

Add a time and time zone in your prediction if they matter.

This adds a dated original to your record. You can still edit the fields; the original stays visible. It is kept only in this open page until you save or export.

Return to the experience Optional

Record what happened next, including a miss or an unclear result. If you made a prediction, compare the outcome with your original wording.

Separate new observations from what you make of them. One experience usually leaves more than one explanation open.

This notebook separates observation, interpretation, prediction, and outcome. It does not assign a probability, diagnose an experience, or establish its cause. Personal meaning and a claim about the world can be considered separately.
